PURPOSE

The Society for Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (SREI) in partnership with the American Society of Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) Research Institute invites submission of applications for its REI Fellow’s Young Investigator Research Award. The purpose of this grant is to support REI fellow-specific research in reproductive medicine and is made possible by an educational grant provided by Ferring Pharmaceuticals, Inc.

ELIGIBILITY

Eligible applicants are MDs in their 1st-year of an ACGME-accredited REI fellowship in the United States. Applicants must demonstrate a strong career goal within the field of Reproductive Medicine. Applications should be focused on clinical or translational research related to the evaluation, treatment, and management of reproductive health diagnoses and can include access to care, health disparities, or health services research. All sources of funding must be disclosed by the awardee. Funds may be used in support of a new or ongoing research/clinical investigation project.

IMPORTANT DATES

  • Proposals Due: December 1, 2023 by 4PM EST
  • Notification of Finalists: March 1, 2024
  • Finalists' Oral Presentations: Spring 2024 (date TBD)
  • Selection of Award recipients: Within 48 hours of final presentation
  • Award begins: May 1, 2024

DELIVERABLES

  • Selected finalists must provide an oral (Zoom) presentation to the final review committee.
  • Award recipients must present research findings at an ASRM Congress within two years of receiving the award.
  • Acknowledgement of support by SREI and ASRM in any publications, abstracts, manuscripts and/or presentations at scientific conferences or meetings resulting from the funded research.

APPLICATION

 An application must include:

  1. Title page
    1. Title of the project (not to exceed 200 characters including spaces)
    2. Applicant’s name and credentials
    3. Applicant’s, department affiliation, sponsoring institution, and contact information
    4. Total award amount requested
  2. Letters:
    1. Program Director letter (one page max) acknowledging the applicant’s project and grant proposal, endorsing the applicant’s research, and confirming the institution’s commitment to provide time and support to the applicant.
  3. Abstract (One page maximum)
    1. Scientific Abstract (500 words) describing the research proposal including the potential immediate impact of the anticipated results on the practice of reproductive medicine.
    2. Lay-person Abstract (200 words) describing the project in general terms
  4. Specific Aims of the research proposal presented in NIH format– (One page maximum)
  5. Research proposal (no more than three pages) including sections:
    1. Background and Significance
    2. Innovation and Potential Impact
    3. Research Plan (methodology and statistical analysis plan must be clearly described)
    4. Timeline for project start up, implementation, and completion
  6. NIH-style Biosketch: Each Biosketch should include a specific description of the role of each investigator in the proposed project and should not exceed FIVE pages (including the current funding)
  7. Budget:
    1. detailed budget and budget justification for the project
    2. Funds may not be used to support salary, the purchase of equipment, or degree seeking tuition of any kind
    3. Funds, at a max of $1200, may be used for conference travel/registration to present final summary of findings at ASRM Congress
    4. This grant does not cover sponsoring institution indirect costs
  8. Formatting and Due Date:
    1. The proposal must be typed in Arial 11 pt. type with page margins no less than .5 inches and no more than 1 inch
    2. Pagination should be included at the bottom of each page (excluding the Title page)
    3. The entire application must be submitted as ONE PDF FILE to research@asrm.org Subject Line: SREI Fellow-Young Investigator Research Award Application by 4PM EST on December 1, 2023
  9. Regulatory Requirements:
    1. Human and/or animal use must be approved by the Institutional Review Board or Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, or their equivalent and documented before funds are released, but pre-approval is not required for application.

SELECTION PROCESS

Eligible applications will be reviewed and scored by a SREI-appointed review committee over two rounds. The first review includes all eligible applications received prior to the submission deadline and will identify the top six (6) scoring applications to be advanced to a final selection round. The final selection round will take place in Spring 2024 (date and venue TBD). The six (6) finalists will be notified by March 1, 2024. Finalists must provide a 10 minute presentation of the proposed research project to the final selection committee. For review of finalists, the review committee will use combined scores from both the initial review round and the oral presentation to determine final selection of award recipients.

CONSIDERATIONS

  • Review Committe: 
  • Each proposal will be reviewed by 3 reviewers. Faculty of the Fellows’ Symposium will be invited to serve as reviewers.
  • Presentation: 
  • The Shark Tank-style presentation and discussion will be a virtual or in-person meeting in March or April of 2024 (details TBD). A subset of the reviewers will serve as judges to determine the final awardees. This will be publicized via the SREI website and open to all SREI members and associates.
  • Announcement of Awardees:
  • Announcement will be made to the awardees via email, and to the SREI Forum.
